NIGERIA GOVERNMENT AND EXXONMOBIL, A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE

Ibeno which contribute enormously to Nigeria economy, and which is known as the Most Peaceful Area (MPA) in Nigeria in-terms of oil exploitation and production has been facing serious disasters resulting from human activities on the land;
- Series of oil spillage have been occurring without proper clean-up. The latest which happen on Friday 29th February, 2008 was denied by ExxonMobil, thereby polluting the aquatic environment. But still the people remain silence.
- The release of poisonous gas to the atmosphere by ExxonMobil have been going on for years now without any effective action taken to stop this or to compensate the people whose health is suffering from this poisonous substance released to the atmosphere.
- No drainage system in this area as during the rain, this people who boost the economy of Nigeria are living and diving with water in their homes.
- No good drinking water in Ibeno as the lucky part of Ibeno is drinking poisonous water while the unlucky part is starving to death but only on the mercy of packet water popularly known as Sachet/Pure water.
- There is little or no standard road in Ibeno as the one-man roads are no better for vehicles.
- Medical care is one of the problems facing this people, Ibeno which have increase in population over the years cannot boost of good and well-equipped hospital as the existed once lacks facilities for effective treatment.
- When unemployment is mentioned, Ibeno people come to the fore-light as unemployment has its base rooted in Ibeno, it only spring out to other part of Nigeria.
Sixty years ago, this people boost of lot of things that include;
- Professor Eyo Ita, a son of Ibeno became the first professor in West Africa.
- Missionary Samuel Bill landed in Ibeno as the first missionary to bring Christianity religion.
- Crude oil was discovered in Ibeno, this contributed to the growth of Nigeria Economy.
- Ibeno people were known by their great strength to withstand King Jaja of Opobo kingdom.
But, sixty years after, this same Great Nation that contributed so much to the society is lamenting; people are fighting collectively to take away their lands (Ibeno land). Their resources are taken away from them. These people rights have been deprived. They have been neglected and forgotten despite the facts that, this people are a Major Oil Producing Area in Nigeria.
Let’s take Self Assessment of Government effect on this people. Is the assessment positive or negative, good or bad? Consider the contributions of this people to the Government of Nigeria.
Let’s assess the Oil Company (ExxonMobil) effect on this people. Is the assessment positive or negative, good or bad? Consider what this people are giving out to this Oil Company.
Ok, have you asked yourself; how has Abuja really contributed to the growth of Nigeria? No doubt that, Abuja is the Federal Capital Territory and should look magnificent and beautiful. But does the money pump into the development of this F.C.T. call Abuja really worth that investment, while the people whose resources is helping Abuja look beautiful is suffering and deserted?
To be fair enough, Abuja is the Tenant to the abundant wealth of Nigeria, while Ibeno is the Landlord of this abundant wealth. Is the Tenant power over the Landlord? Is the Servant power over the Master?
I leave this to you for judgment. I am not against Abuja or the rest part of Nigeria. All I am saying is IBENO SHOULD BE ACCURATELY COMPENSATED.

FIRE OUTBREAK COST IWUOKPOM VILLAGE 80MILLION NAIRA

Iwuokpom people are once again on the boil. This time not from the pollution cause by oil spillage from ExxonMobil but by serious fire outbreak from the YORUBA SETTLEMENT of the village otherwise known as YORUBA QUARTERS.

On Wednesday October 1st, 2008, on this fateful day, when Nigerians were celebrating her 48th Independent Anniversary, the inhabitant of Iwuokpom, a riverine community in Ibono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State were wallowing in pains and agony as a result of serious damages cause by fire-outbreak that burnt down twelve (12) houses and household properties which amount to 80Million Naira (USD683, 761).
“I was on my way to the house when I saw flames but before I get to the location, over ten houses were destroyed, concerned people were putting all their effort into making sure that they quench the fire. On reaching there and discovering that all my properties were gone, I fainted due to the shock of losing my fishing net, engine, money and fishes. I can’t believe that I have lost over six (6) Million Naira (USD51, 282) in a day, how and were will I start again? This was claim by Mr. David Edet
This fire which started at about 15hrs GMT (3PM) left a lot of people devastated. When the Press Unit of “De SUPREME SOLIDARITY ASSOCIATION (DSSA)” visited the area, can you believe that, this Community which host ExxonMobil, there was no rescue team sent there.
Mr. Andrew alleged that such incident has been happening without help from Government and Corporate bodies’ etc. saying that five month ago, three houses was destroy completely by fire without rescue or aide to the victim. He also claims that he lost properties worth Two Million Eight Hundred Thousand (2.8M) Naira (USD23, 932), and that Government have forgotten about their welfare, but are interested in the resources from their land.
Helen Wale a mother of five (5) children, lost everything she has ever work-for, because of this, she was in serious coma. Mr. Anthony who was seriously in pains said his fishes worth Four Hundred Thousand Naira (₦400,000.00) and Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (₦900,000.00) cash sum which was for settlement of his workers.
When DSSA visited the incumbent Executive Youth President of Iwuokpom, Comrade Patrick Joseph Akpan in his speech, he said, “The Government has forgotten about us, they have forgotten about Ibeno Local Government Area partially in the sense that, they only know Ibeno due to her contribution to the nation economy and forgetting about the people’s welfare”.
Mr. Patrick who assumes office on September 12th, 2008 told DSSA that they have been facing situation like this without any assistant from anybody. He accused ExxonMobil saying that, they are contributing to the suffering of the people of Ibeno. In his speech he said, “ExxonMobil is a curse to the people of Ibeno instead of blessing. 98% of the youth are unemployed, they are roaming the street. 90% of the students are without assistance as good numbers of them are dropping out of school due to lack of funds to forward their academic pursuit, but thanks to HEX Chief Godswil Obot Akpabio the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, who recently declare Free Education from Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) to Senior Secondary School Three (SS3). I am calling on the Government, Corporate body, NGO’s, Group and Individual to the aide of this victim who has lost everything.”

THEY ARE PEOPLE AND NOT ALIEN FROM ANOTHER PLANET
Related to country: Nigeria

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

The time is now! Imagine your mother or father has suffered a heart attack. Deny of its vital blood supply, a part of their heart is dying.
Imagine your beloved brother or sister lying nearly motionless in their nursing home bed. An advanced and severe pain, full-of-twists-and-turns by pneumonia is about to end their lives.
Also imagine a close friend has just entered the hospital with a massive system-wide infection. Aids has left is body ruinous by several disease. For most people these circumstances would be a sign of the end of life. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has led to the deaths of more than 25 million people since it was first recognized in 1981, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history.
‘UNAIDS’ and the ‘WHO’ estimated as of 2007, 33.2 million people now living with ‘HIV’. The pandemic is not standardized within country with some state more afflicted than others. The number of people living with ‘HIV’ continues to rise in most part of the world, despite demanding prevention strategies. Despite recent improved access to anti-retroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed approximately 2.1 million lives in 2007 only. Imagine such live lost.
Sub-Saharan Africa remains the hardest-hit region, ‘HIV’ infection is becoming endemic in this region, estimated adult incidence of ‘HIV’ infection (ages 15—49) is between 20.9 million – 24.3 million.
West Africa has been much less affected by the pandemic, several countries reportedly have occurrence rates around 2—3% and no country has yet rates above 10%, Nigeria and Cote d’voire, between 5 and 7% of adults are reported to carry the virus. Although ‘HIV’ infection rates are much lower in Nigeria than in other African countries, the size of Nigeria’s population meant that by the end of 2003, there were an estimated 3.6 million people living with ‘HIV’.
What shall we then say? Shall we say that the key facts surrounding this origin of AIDS are currently unknown, particularly were and when the pandemic began, though it was said that it originated from the apes in Africa. Or shall we say that across sub-Sahara Africa, more women are infected with ‘HIV’ than men, with 13 women living with ‘HIV’ for every 10 infected men and the gap continues to grow. Throughout the region, women are been infected with ‘HIV’ at earlier ages than men are. The differences in infection levels between women and men are most pronounced among young people (aged 15—24 years). In this age group, there are 3 women living with ‘HIV’ for every 10 men?
Shall we again says that this disease has no cure, or that it is transmitted through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, unsterilized clipper and syringe, scarification, and sharing of skin piercing instrument? Or worse still, pregnant woman can pass it to the unborn child? You can now imagine that this disease like law is no respecter of any person, age and statues.
Now the question is, how can we prevent these ‘HIV/AIDS’ that has kill millions of people (both male and female)?
Since this disease is transmitted through blood, you can do the following:
• Be faithful to your partner (married men/women only).
• Avoid early sexual intercourse (no sex with boyfriend and girlfriend, sugar daddy and sugar mummy).
• Avoid sharing of needle, syringe and other skin piercing instrument.
• Get your clipper. If you cannot, ensure it is well sterilized before you use it.
• Pregnant women should go to clinic for checkup.
• Avoid getting in contact with blood.
• Ensure that transfuse blood is tested before transfusion.

What else’s?
• Go for ‘HIV’ test now—you have everything to gain and nothing to loose by going to a clinic. Take the guesswork out of your health.
• Love ‘HIV/AIDS patient.
• Educate people about ‘HIV/AIDS’.
• Do not spread this disease (because what goes around comes around).
• If you have ‘HIV/AIDS’, don’t be ashamed. Go to ‘Ministry of Health’ for help.

So think again of your father and mother has suffered a heart attack.
Imagine your beloved brother or sister lying nearly motionless in their nursing home bed. An advanced and serious pain, full-of-twists-and-turns by pneumonia is about to end their lives. Or your close friend struck with Aids.
‘HIV’ should be your worse enemy. Pursue it away!
HIV, diseases don’t spread it!!
HIV Patient, a must to be love. Love and care for them!!!
